2009 Bookmark Challenge

March - May 2009

Celebrate reading and stitching! As part of the Needle and ThREAD Stitching for Literacy program Heart’s Desire invites any interested needleworker to stitch a bookmark that will be donated to a library or school during May and June to encourage kids to read during the summer. How Can I Help?

Step 1: Stitch a bookmark (or two or three...) Any handstitched bookmark counts! Use any pattern (purchased or one you create; we also have some free patterns donated by Kreinik for this program). Use any background (perforated paper or your favorite fabric). Use any fibers (even add metallics or beads for pizzazz!). Use any needlework technique.

Step 2: Drop off or mail your bookmark to Heart’s Desire between March 5 and May 15th. If you would like, attach a note with your first name and the name of your

Optional Step 3: Children’s Book Week is May 11-17. Ask your local schools if you can volunteer time to read in a classroom. Take a bookmark with you!

This is Heart’s Desires first year to participate in this program and we hope it will be an ongoing project for our customers and our community.
