Heart's Desire Cross Stitch store in Wichita, Kansas

Beautiful weather, tons of stitching, terrific designers and friendship renewal made it the perfect weekend. After many requests for an extra day option added to camp I decided to give it a whirl this year. Thirty of the 55 in attendance opted to come Thursday thru Sunday. The remaining 25 attended Friday thru Sunday. We had 14 new campers this year. Friendships were started and renewed with campers from Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado, Iowa and Kansas.

Thursday was a totally activity FREE day for campers to fill with their own desires. Many went into Junction City to eat and shop while others stayed at Rock Springs and had an additional 24 hours of stitching time. Friday afternoon welcomed the arrival of the remaining campers. We had just finished a sandwich/salad buffet Friday evening when Barb Adams and Alma Allen of Blackbird Designs arrived. The evening was filled with show & tells, visiting and stitching.

Saturday was filled with a class led by Barb & Alma. Everyone covered a papier-mache accessory box with beautiful paper copied from an antique sampler. We stitched a long narrow piece to fit perfectly in the bottom of the box. We also stitched a small pincushion and got to rummage through piles of old buttons to find a few special ones for our boxes. The uniquely packaged kits came complete with a pair of black scissors with heart shaped finger holes.

Alma and Barb also gave a presentation on color removing and dyeing fabrics. Their presentation was truly amazing. Both gals are filled and overflowing with ideas. The thing they do with old unused stitched pieces or partially stitched pieces was fascinating. The day was filled with fun filled learning.

Alma and Barb had planned to drive back home to Olathe Saturday evening but decided to stay Saturday night and drive home Sunday morning. Sunday morning was filled with leisure time to relax before driving back to the reality of life! Thanks to all who attended and helped make it an overwhelming success.
